Next year, I'll be leaving Purdue to teach in Grand Valley State University's Writing Department. One of the classes I'll be teaching is Writing for the Web, so I'll be posting more resources that I find on the web which might be useful for that class. Here are the latest:
- Karl Stolley's Sustainable Web Design. Great introduction to CSS and semantic markup.
- Writing for the Web, a web text hosted at Sun Microsystems written by Jakob Nielsen.
- Proximity & Alignment and Repetition & Contrast. Nice, quick introductions to these four basic design concepts. Note the examples on the pages using Flash to show the before and after effect of implementing these principles.
- Can't forget Webmonkey and A List Apart.

Stolley & Cederholm
Stolley is excellent. Another book very much worth checking out is Dan Cederholm's Bulletproof Web Design.
So when do you move?

Cederholm, Krug, Zen, and moving
I like Cederholm for an accessible how to text. For my class, I'll be using Krug's Don't Make Me Think and Shea and Holzchlag's The Zen of CSS Design. The Zen book is great in comparison to other books such as Cederholm and Zeldman because it seems more oriented toward thinking about design through CSS then CSS design (if that makes any sense). I think it'll work really well for a professional writing class where I don't want them to get hung up with learning CSS coding all semester but want them to think about the why of making choices. Besides, I have to leave room for thinking about blogs, wikis, and all kinds of other writing for the web topics that aren't necessarily included in your typical web design class :)
As for moving, got a lease until the end of July so I have to move just two weeks before I start.
