Night Kitchen and Page Whiz
A brief look at tk3 and PageWhiz, ebook authoring tools, which I posted to Kairosnews:
Night Kitchen and Page Whiz - At C&W 2003, Bob Stein, one of the keynote speakers, gave an extensive introduction to the work that Night Kitchen has done on creating tk3, "a new format for multimedia electronic documents and a flexible, easy assembly tool for making them." tk3 ebooks are multimedia texts with graphics, audio and sound all rolled into one. It's available for Mac and Windows.
However, I was put off by the licensing fee. I'm not keen on the idea of having students buy software for a writing class. Maybe it's just me.
Ironically, I ran into PageWhiz soon after the conference. After briefly evaluating it, I'd say that PageWhiz might be an alternative worth considering for classroom use. . . .
